Stearic acid is a fatty acid that is commonly found in natüre and has the general chemical properties
of carboxylic acids. Animal fatsare offered in glyceride form, as are vegetable oils. These oils produce
stearic after hydrolysis.
It has a solid wax form. In it is püre form, it is white,shiny,soft, in small pieces. İt is easily soluble in
organic solvents(benzene,chloroform,ether). It provides hardening when used with glucose. It
attracts fats and oils instead of water and prevents rusting. It provides lubrication between two
substances and when used as an emulsifier, it is used to combine water and oil in many sectors from
food to medicine. It is one of the beneficial saturated fats. It does not raise the level of cholesterol in
the blood because enzymes in the liver convert it to unsaturated fat during digestion.
