MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE
FLAME RETARDANTS
Magnesium Hydroxide is a halogen free flame retardant filler for all plastic and rubber applications.
In the plastic and rubber industry, it is considered to have three functions as flame retardant, smoke
suppression, excellent flame retardant. It is widely used in rubber industry, chemical industry, plastic
industry, halogen-free cable manufacturing, electronics, unsaturated polyester coating and other
polymer building materials.
The combination of high heat adsorption with the relesa of flame extinguishiing gases (water vapor
or carbon dioxide) is a well-known mechanism for reducing flame spread of Magnesium Hydroxide
and Magnesium Carbonate and rubbers. Magnesium Oxide (MgO) formed during combustion forms a
hard and thermally insulating layer that protects the substrates from further combustion.
Thanks to their high thermal stability, magnesium hydroxide, Magnesium carbonate and a mixture of
Magnesium Di-Hydroxide and Carbonate can be used in a wide variety of polymers, including PVC,
PE, EVA,TPO, PP, PS, PC, ABS, rubber and the like. The performance of flame reterdant flamers is
strongly related to a number of factors such as chemical purity surface area, surface reactivity and
particle size distribution.
Low-smoke PVC compounds can be easily obtained by reducing Antimony Trioxide and replacing
some of the calcium carbonate with Magnesium Hydroxide.
